Calder Brook Foods began as one van and a list of cafés. Our founder had spent years cooking in kitchens up and down the valley, and kept hearing the same complaint: the big wholesalers wanted large orders, delivered when it suited them, and a small café was just an account number.
So he bought a refrigerated van, filled it from the cash and carry, and started running a weekly round from Hebden Bridge down to Brighouse. Customers asked for more lines, then for a second delivery day, and the round outgrew the van and then the garage.
Today we work from a unit in Brighouse with dry, chilled and frozen storage under one roof. It's still a family business. The people who take your order are the people who pick it, and quite often the people who bring it to your back door.
